MY PRACTICE

My name is Carly O'Brien-Hart (she/her/hers). I am a mental health therapist and licensed social worker who offers both telehealth and in person therapy. Please see my FAQ page to answer any logistical questions you might have about the therapeutic process.

I work with adult clients ages 18 and up who are seeking help with OCD, anxiety, trauma, or life transitions – especially college students who are coping with their transition to adulthood. I see clients of all gender identities, sexual orientations, and racial/cultural backgrounds, and I am kink/poly/BDSM informed.

I am a relationship focused therapist who enjoys co-creating a safe space in the therapy room by listening to your story with compassion, empathy, and intuition. I enjoy using insight oriented methods to help folks develop a deeper understanding of their needs and feelings, and I also enjoy teaching folks valuable tools to improve their communication and emotion regulation skills.

MY STORY

A New Hampshire girl at heart, I attended college in-state. It wasn’t easy deciding on my major because so many things interested me. Initially, I wanted to teach and study French, and when I left high school and entered college—like so many young people—I just wasn’t ready to launch. I felt lost and in need of soul searching, so I took a break from school and joined the workforce for a while. It was during this time that I realized that my issues with school were largely due to undiagnosed ADHD. With support from my therapist at the time, I learned skills to cope with stress and strategies to accommodate for the functional deficits that my ADHD symptoms caused. After about a year and a half of doing my own work, I realized that I wanted to be a therapist to help others like me who were struggling.

So, in 2009, I returned to the University of New Hampshire to take the first steps toward starting my career. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology in 2010 and my master’s in social work in 2012. Now, I am incredibly proud and privileged to be a first generation college graduate, a licensed clinical social worker and mental health therapist, and the first business owner in my immediate family.

What I hope you take away from this is that I, too, have had my share of vulnerabilities, and even though therapy and life were not always easy, the effort I put in and what I learned along the way in my journey toward becoming totally changed my quality of life.

If you like what you’ve read and are ready to change your life, please visit my contact page for next steps. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

MY PETS

Since 2020, I have enjoyed using technology as a platform for healing, and I really love the added bonus of meeting people's pets and introducing you to mine. Since cats like to venture from room to room, you might see my two cats roaming past my screen every so often should you choose to work with me, or, well...us. My two cats are some of my most esteemed colleagues and the very best helpers, especially since they are usually welcome distractions during tough conversations.
